The Skateboard Project

Description

Tony Hawk is the founder of the Skateboard Project. This is a nonprofit organization that he created solely for the purpose of helping people to skateboard. After being informed of how many people do not have a safe place to skate, Hawk decided it was his responsibility to make a difference. Through The Skateboard Project, Hawk hoped to give skaters safe places to exercise and improve their self esteem. They aim to create safe skate parks for the youth, especially in low income areas. To this date, the foundation has provided over $10 million in grants to over 600 projects in all of the 50 United States. The foundation has also raised over $150,000 to assist public skate parks in Cambodia, Afghanistan, and South Africa. This is currently the only foundation that exists for the sole purpose of creating public skate parks in low income areas. This provides a healthy outlet and incentives for young skaters and athletes to be active. The parks built receive more than six million visits annually by youth who benefit from them. This was all made possible by Tony Hawk. This image is the logo for The Skateboard Project.
